Dear HAT Run,
We hope your new year is off to a great start. Planning for the 2021 race continues. Our COVID-19 plan is in with the state, and as soon as we receive approval, we’ll share the complete details with you.
It remains too early to know what March 20th will look like, but we have proposed a conditions-based plan that includes multiple tiers. We’re planning for the most restrictive of conditions, including that we may still have to cancel the event. COVID-19 predictive models allow for approximately a 4-week forecast, and we will set the final field 2 weeks out.
The most aggressive of our control strategies includes 3 separate packet pickup times on Saturday morning and extended hours on Friday. You’d be assigned a time and asked to arrive within your 30-minute window. It also includes what we call a “continuous staggered start.” This means groups of approximately 10 runners starting every 2 minutes. Your starting time would be based on your predicted race pace in Ultrasignup to reduce overtaking runners on the course. Runners will be permitted to request an alternative start time, and notified as adjustments are feasible.
As soon as we can guarantee the event is a “go,” we will move runners from the waiting list into the registered field. We’ll notify you of course, and expect to do so 2 weeks out, March 6th. At that time, we’ll give everyone their starting position and arrival time. It’s pace-based, so you can make some assumptions based on the rankings in Ultrasignup.
A note on travel. We don’t know what the circumstances will be in March, but if they remain as they are today, 18 January, the state of Maryland requires testing and quarantine for all out
of state travelers. View the latest Maryland Travel Orders: https://governor.maryland.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Traveler-Testing-and-Quarantine-12.17.20.pdf
We appreciate your patience. We know there will be many questions. You can always reach us through Ultrasignup or at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will keep you updated as we know more.
Keep running, be safe and we look forward to seeing you all on the trails.
